Cowlitz County is Tough Enough to Wear PinkThe 31st Annual Thunder Mountain Pro Rodeo kicked off last Thursday night with Tough Enough to Wear Pink Night-an initiative in the rodeo world that is raising money and awareness for Breast Cancer. The evening was co-sponsored by the Kelso Longview Chamber of Commerce and PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center. The Thunder Mountain Pro Rodeo Board chose to donate all funds raised to I Understand, a local breast cancer support group. Area businesses helped the cause; Foster Farms made a monetary donation, Horse Lover’s Haven donated $1.00 for every pink shirt sold, and McCord Dodge agreed to pay fifty cents for every rodeo attendee that arrived wearing pink. Bonnie’s Place, Longview Sewing & Kitchen, Kelso True Value, 4-Day Furniture, Don Renatos Italian Ristorante, Pampered Chef, Cellular Connections, Horse Lover’s Haven, Dr. Christine Katterhagen, Lenore’s Optical, Dee Winsman, 820 Restaurant, Capital Press Agriculture Weekly, and Cindy’s Art & Soul donated raffle Items. Members of I Understand also sold pink hats, bandanas and 50/50 Raffle
Tickets, with proceeds being donated to the cause. Stock Contractor Frank
Beard collected money from participating cowboys, and announcer Steve Kenyon
challenged the spectators to match or beat their contribution. The end result
was a donation of $2,885.00 going to I Understand-proof that Cowlitz County
is Tough Enough to Wear Pink. ###
